A Legacy of Voices

Founded in 1919,

the Hart House Student Debates and Dialogue Committee has grown to become one of the most prestigious student societies in Canada. Our Committee has hosted leaders in every field, including heads of state, business leaders, scientists, policymakers, activists, philanthropists, scholars, and more.

Some of our most notable speakers include John F. Kennedy, Christopher Hitchens, Adrienne Clarkson, Noam Chomsky, John Turner, Brian Mulroney, John Tory, Margaret Atwood, and Atom Egoyan.

Mission & Purpose

Our Mission is to uphold and promote the values of freedom of expression and speech as found in the Canadian Constitution.  We are a student-run committee dedicated to creating meaningful debates and dialogues on important issues. As an affiliate of Hart House, all our events are hosted within the historic Hart House building.

What We Do

1

Each semester, our committee thoughtfully curates debates and dialogue topics that resonate with our community, with a particular focus on current events and pressing issues that spark meaningful dialogue.

2

We carefully select speakers who can enrich these conversations, ensuring a meaningful exchange of ideas through a variety of event formats. From large-scale keynote events to smaller townhall discussions, we are committed to hosting important dialogues in diverse fields.

3

We invite inspiring and distinguished speakers from across Canada and around the globe to contribute to these discussions.

4

Most of our events include Q&A sessions and networking opportunities, allowing students to engage directly with the speakers after the event.
